Stop, Drop & Inhale! A Simple But Effective Practice For The Mind, Body & Soul

We've all been there, those moments when you feel like you're about to lose your cool and burst! 

Aromatherapy is a wonderful tool to use in times of stress, anger or frustration as the power of scent help to calm down the nervous system and relieves tension within the body. I use a practice I like to call Stop, Drop and inhale!

What Is This Practice? 

Being a Mother of two little ones, running a business and all the in between, I use this practice countless times a day. It's incredibly powerful and means I am able to diffuse the energy I am feeling in a mindful way. 

Simply STOP what you are doing, DROP to a seated position and INHALE. If you have a calming essential oil close by, excellent! Remove the cap and take a deep inhale of the scent, hold your breath for a couple of seconds, and exhale. Continue for 3-5 breathes - or longer if you have time. 

Breathe in for 4 seconds, hold for 6 seconds and exhale out for 7 seconds. Be really intentional with the exhale, as if you are blowing out a candle. This helps to move stagnant, unwanted energy from the body.

Why Does This Practice Work? 

Combining breath work and aromatherapy it makes for an incredibly powerful reset, and here is why:

Being intentional with the breath brings us back into the present moment. It connects us to our essence, brings us back into this moment and allows energy to move within and out of the body. Aroma has the powerful ability to trigger emotions within the body, by stimulating the Limbic System which regulates long-term memories and emotions. When combining the two together we take the powerful effects of conscious breathing to the next level; we can instil peace, calm and a relaxed state of being - mentally, physically and emotionally.
